
Doris Aiken intiated the first effective anti-DWI campaign in the
U.S.
A celebrated award-winning leader in advancing anti-DWI
laws, a former TV public affairs producer and host, she is a
popular talk show guest, feisty victims' advocate, pit bull
enabler of tough DWI laws, confronter of legislatvie and
government sellouts and prosecutorial and judicial wimps.
Aiken is an author of a citizen action manual, "The Media Game and How
to Play It," producer of the unique video, "Without Warning," the
first video on the impact of the teen binge drinking epidemic on
families whose children have died from alcohol poisoning.
Aiken's organizaiton RID-USA (Remove Intoxicated Drivers),
active in 41 states, published the first citizen action manual
"How Can I Help," initiated the first victim impact panels and
victim impact court statements (now mandated in most states),
victim rights manuals, "Lights for Life" campaign, and many other
programs.
Aiken is a contributing feature editor in news and
magazine publications as well as news wire services. Aiken
accepted awards for RID-USA from President Reagan, the U.S. Dept.
of Justice, NCADD, the interantional Widmark Award, NYS-DMV, and
NHTSA, among many others.
Her efforts as a volunteer for the
first five years of RID resulted in the passage of 13 tough
anti-DWI bills which caused alcohol-related highway deaths to
drop 49% in N.Y. state over the following decades, making NYS a
leader in the nation in curbing the drunk driver. She has just published a book titled, "My Life as a Pit Bull – Collaring the Drunk Driver", available at book stores everywhere.
