"What do you say to a friend who is terminal? 'How are you?' We both know he's dying!" The fear of saying the wrong thing can keep even the most caring people at a distance at the end of life. Here are some ideas to keep in mind. First, you don't have to say anything. Your simple presence speaks louder than words. If you must say something, remind your friend how he made your life better. Be specific about an event or a conversation or a quality you respect. You don't need to wait until a friend's final days . Tell people regularly why they are important to you.
