FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 2, 2010

CHICAGO, IL (September 2, 2010) – After a two-year battle with lung cancer, John Regis passed away on July 28th, 2010. To honor his memory, his wife and two daughters asked the question, "How can we make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else?" At a time when many are overcome with grief, the Regis family unselfishly took action and joined the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago's Fight For Air Run Walk to raise money for lung cancer research.

"My dad had such a GREAT attitude about cancer," says Michelle Marek. "He wasn't going to let it get the best of him and his strength for survival came from his family."

Michelle, her sister Lisa, and her mom Pat, have asked their friends and family to join their team "Free to Breathe" on September 18th in Grant Park. They'll walk or run a 3.1 mile course and are on pace to raise more than $1,000.

"We chose the team name "Free to Breathe" because that was the last thing my mother said to my dad," says Marek. "We hope to do this walk every year and help keep his memory alive."
