5 Reasons President Obama Needs to Stop Talking
Akron, OH
Sunday, August 15, 2010
President Obama the former King James have something in common. They both need to stop talking.
There is just no good reason for the president to weigh in on the Mosque at Ground Zero debate. There is no good reason and no good outcome for him to share his unsolicited opinion. There is an old adage that less-is-more Usually it refers to accessories, as in less jewelry is more effective. 1. In this instance, rather than less-is-more, zero-is-more. Saying nothing, zero, nada, would have been better than saying anything. 2. This is a "local" situation. The federal government, even the president, has nothing to do with the situation. 3. Statistics show that Americans are solidly against this project. If he is a president driven by polls, what was the upside? 4. He is not the moral arbiter of justice. That is what we have a Supreme Court for: justice. 5 Tangents are dangerous territory for even the most seasoned communicators. On Friday when the president first commented, it was not in answer to a question. He embarked on this tangent all of his own volition. LeBron also needs to stop talking. Talking through social media such as Twitter is still talking. His tweet this week encouraged the wrath of the sports world. He is not the victim in this sports situation as his Tweet tried to position him. He was criticized from Jim Rome to Sir Charles. There was just no upside. To the President and former King: stop talking. Leslie Ungar
